Midway between El Ejido and Roquetas del Mar, surrounded by luxurious houses, nature lovers will discover a hidden oasis with flamingos and white-headed ducks.
This is Punta Entinas-Sabinar, designated a reserve and nature spot, where you'll find two hundred or so different species including mammals, amphibians, reptiles and fish. The area's wetlands provide the habitat for the spectacular flamingos although there are other species existing in the salt pans that are equally as impressive such as mallards, shovelers, egrets and grey herons.
You'll probably be surprised at finding such marvels so close to civilisation, so make the most, take a leisurely walk and enjoy a different view: the dunes surrounding the wild juniper and lentiscus, which stretch from Punto Entinas to Punta Sabinar. Equally impressive are the shifting dunes, more than 500 metres long and as much as seven metres in height, which separates the lagoons from the virgin beach.
